Thrissur is situated in 10º 10' and 10º 46' North latitude and 75º 55' and 77º 05' East longitude. The city is located 75 km north of Kochi, 133 km west of Coimbatore and 144 km south of Kozhikode.
Thrissur District can be divided into three well-defined zones. Descending from the heights of Western Ghats in the east, the land slopes towards the west, forming three distinct natural divisionsthe high lands, the plains and the seaboard. The high lands are thickly forested whereas the plains, which are fertile, are cultivated for food and cash crops. Thrissur city is located in the midland region. Geologically the area is composed mostly of archaean gneisses and crystalline schists with a narrow coastal belt of recent sediments and laterite.
