Kochi is the second most important port city on the western coast of India and is the commercial capital of Kerala and is situated in Ernakulam District, located in the central region of the State,between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. The city is located between 9º 52' and 10º 1' North Latitude and between 76º 14' and 76º 21' East Longitude.
Urbanization and growth of urban population are pointers towards the change in the occupational pattern of the community, which has been from agriculture and allied means of livelihood to industrial and other non-agriculture occupations.
